Powered by Coherent’s highly efficient Steelerton™ digital signal processor (DSP), this industrial-temperature 100G ZR QSFP28-DCO module sets a new benchmark for low power consumption. Packaged in a compact form factor, the module boasts industry-leading power efficiency with a power consumption of only 5.5 watts. The Steelerton™ DSP integrates an innovative silicon photonics optical front-end and a power-optimized tunable laser based on Coherent’s indium phosphide (InP) platform. This proprietary combination of DSP and optical design delivers best-in-class power performance, underscoring the value of vertical integration for exceptional performance and scalability.
“Following the successful launch of the commercial-temperature (C-temp) 100G ZR QSFP28-DCO at the European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC) in September 2024, we are now introducing the industrial-temperature version for edge and access networks, designed for deployment in harsh outdoor environments,” said Dr. Beck Mason, Executive Vice President of Coherent’s Telecom Business Unit. “We are excited to meet the strong customer demand across various segments and to expand commercial deployment with our global partners. This milestone further demonstrates our team’s commitment to delivering outstanding value and innovation to our customers.”
“10G dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) technology has seen widespread deployment at the network edge, but operators are now seeking higher-bandwidth 100G solutions. Edge networks demand low-power QSFP28 coherent modules, and Coherent’s 100G ZR solution is well-positioned to become the preferred choice for such upgrades,” said Scott Wilkinson, Principal Analyst at CignalAI. “With the introduction of the industrial-temperature version, Coherent extends the application of this unique solution to outdoor environments.”
“This industrial-temperature 100G QSFP28 coherent transceiver meets the growing demands of our customers,” said Christoph Glingener, CTO at Adtran. “It enables operators to seamlessly upgrade their outdoor edge and access networks from 10 Gbps to 100 Gbps while reducing both capital expenditures and operating costs.”
The industrial-temperature 100G ZR QSFP28-DCO is available in versions supporting the SFF-8636 and CMIS management interface standards, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of existing network infrastructures. For devices already equipped with QSFP28 ports, it offers a smooth upgrade path and supports transmission distances of up to 300 kilometers, making it a versatile solution. Additionally, the integration of Flextune™ automatic tuning technology enables zero-touch provisioning, significantly simplifying network operations and reducing deployment complexity for operators.
