TSMC has strong technology, Apple processor transistors increase by 43% every year

Apple's latest A13 processor has 8.5 billion transistors. Since 2013, the number of transistors in Apple processors has increased by 43% year by year. The industry believes that this is a strong demonstration of TSMC's process technology.

Research firm IC Insights said that challenges such as power consumption and scaling limitations have affected transistor growth in certain semiconductor products over the past 10 to 15 years.

In the early 2000s, the number of dynamic random access memory (DRAM) transistors grew at a rate of 45% per year, and IC Insights pointed out that by 2016, transistor growth had fallen to about 20%.

However, IC Insights said that the semiconductor industry's strong innovation drive to overcome technological barriers must never be underestimated.

IC Insights pointed out that since 2013, the number of A-series processors used in Apple's iPhone and iPad has increased by 43% each year, and the latest A13 processor has reached 8.5 billion transistors.

The semiconductor industry said that the number of Apple processor transistors can increase by 43% per year, mainly due to the strong support of foundry TSMC process technology.

TSMC produced the Apple A13 processor with a 7nm process last year. This year, it will produce a new generation of Apple's processors with a 5nm process technology. If the annual growth rate is 43%, it is estimated that the number of new processor transistors introduced by Apple this year. It will exceed 10 billion.
