According to a government official in Vietnam, Samsung Electronics is studying the possibility of building another factory in the northern province of Vietnam, which is already a key production base for Samsung.
The official said that Samsung is considering leasing 500 to 1000 hectares of land in the province of peace to build a new factory to produce electronics.
Samsung has invested more than $17.3 billion in eight factories and R&D centers in Vietnam to date, making it the country's largest single foreign investor, accounting for about one-fifth of Vietnam's total exports.
According to Vietnam Customs data, in the first eight months of this year, Vietnam’s exports of smartphones and electronic components increased by 5.6% year-on-year to US$33.39 billion. Most of these products are produced by Samsung Electronics.
