Rumors that Huawei invited TSMC to transfer more advanced capacity

The Nikkei Asian Review reported on the 14th that Huawei executives visited TSMC in October, hoping that TSMC will transfer more advanced manufacturing capacity to the mainland to ensure key components of its smartphones and network equipment. Supply is innocent.

In this regard, Sun Youwen, senior director of TSMC Corporate Information Office, said that TSMC did not comment on customer affairs, but stressed that TSMC has no plans to further produce advanced chips. The Nikkei report quoted Huawei as saying that it did not comment on the company's senior itinerary in accordance with the regulations.

As the largest foundry in the world, TSMC has in fact confirmed that the US Department of Commerce has contacted TSMC customers to ensure the safety of military chip supply. It hopes TSMC will go to the US to produce chips, and TSMC is mainly evaluating cost issues.

The fact that Huawei is now passed on, in addition to showing the importance of TSMC in the Sino-US trade war, also confirms that the founder Zhang Zhongmou said at the Games earlier this month, "When the world is not quiet, TSMC becomes a geostrategist." .

At present, TSMC has Shanghai Songjiang 8吋 Factory and Nanjing 12吋 Factory in the mainland. Among them, the Nanjing plant is expanding production according to the progress. Chairman Liu Deyin said recently that the local manufacturers in the early stage of the Sino-US trade war took a wait-and-see attitude. As a result, the factory was in a state of loss in the first half of the year. The current trade disputes have slowed down and the Nanjing plant is quite full.

It is understood that the Nanjing plant currently has a monthly capacity of 10,000 pieces. It is expected to increase 5,000 pieces in the second half of the year and another 5,000 pieces next year. The first target of the first phase will be 20,000 pieces per month. Liu Deyin stressed that everything will be expanded according to the original speed.
