Taiwan's LED industry has seen a new turnaround. With the rapid development of technology and the increasing demand for quality of consumer electronics products, Mini LEDs are beginning to take shape before the mature Micro LED technology, which is known as the next-generation display technology leader. Introducing mass production, set off a new wave of industry.
According to the industry, Mini LED technology has just begun to enter a small production and shipment. At present, the penetration rate of various terminal products is still low, only within 1%. The initial lock TV, high-end commercial laptop and e-sports notebook, etc. In the field, with the launch of Mini LED related products in major brand factories next year, the first year of Mini LED will be opened, the penetration rate will be greatly increased to 5% to 6%, and it is expected to reach 8% to 9% from 2021 to 2022. The challenge is 10%, which is nine times higher than the current growth rate.
The industry further analyzed that the reason why the Mini LED will rise, the penetration rate can grow year by year in the next three to four years, mainly because the Mini LED, which is an improved version of the LED backlight, can greatly enhance the existing LCD screen effect, while the cost is relatively It is easy to control and can be applied to high-end e-sports and e-sports desktop screens or special application screens to achieve multiple advantages of high resolution, high contrast and high color saturation. Compared with OLED, in terms of LCD TV panels, the price is only about 70% to 80% of OLED TV panels, but the contrast is similar to OLED.
According to the LEDinside report, it is estimated that the global LED market size of each application in the application field will be about 200 million U.S. dollars. Next year, with the expected shipment volume of various manufacturers, the output value will triple to 600 million U.S. dollars. In the year, it will grow by more than 30% to reach 800 million US dollars. In 2022 and 2023, the output value will increase by about 100 million US dollars annually, and in 2023 it will reach 1 billion US dollars.
With the introduction of more terminal products and the increase in scale, the industry revealed that Mini LED is also moving towards a more commercial trend in terms of quotation; with the same specifications and the same brightness, the current price of Mini LED is about NT$2 to 3,000. Yuan, it is expected that the annual reduction will be about 5% to 10%, but if the specifications and brightness increase, the price may flatten a small price increase.
As for the Micro LED part, the advantage is that it inherits the characteristics of high efficiency, high brightness, high reliability and fast response time of inorganic LED, and has the characteristics of self-illumination without backlight, small size, light weight, and easy energy saving. The effect, but the technical difficulty is high. At present, the manufacturers are all in the research and development stage, and a small amount of shipments are sent to the customer for burning.
LEDinside estimates that by 2022, Micro LED and Mini LED applications will account for 11% of the total LED wafer usage, making it an important application to support demand.
Taiwan's LED industry is subject to price cuts by South Korea and the mainland industry, and the industry has become a miserable industry. It is still difficult to get rid of this predicament until today, especially since 2014, with the Chinese mainland manufacturers investing heavily and entering the market with low-cost competition strategies, It is difficult for Taiwanese companies to resist. In addition to moving LED lighting products to the mainland, some manufacturers have begun to withdraw from the LED lighting market. So far, with the continuous expansion of production capacity of Chinese manufacturers, the LED industry is facing tremendous pressure from price decline.
The LED industry, which seems to be difficult to recover, with the advent of Micro LED and Mini LED, may become a new market recovery opportunity for Taiwanese manufacturers.
