Korean media: SK Hynix's dependence on the Chinese market is continuing to grow

According to Korean media Business Korea, SK Hynix is increasingly dependent on the Chinese market. In 2019, the company's sales in China increased by 7.6% as a percentage of its total sales.

It is reported that this increase is due to China's growing semiconductor demand and the Sino-US trade war. At present, Chinese smartphone manufacturers are rapidly expanding their global market share.

It is reported that in the mobile memory chip market, the market share of Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix and Micron Technology combined is currently as high as 95%, which means that their sales in China are directly proportional to sales of Chinese smartphones. Micron ’s exports to Huawei have declined, so Korean companies ’sales in the Chinese market have increased.

However, the spread of the new coronavirus will affect the Chinese smartphone market. It is estimated that China ’s smartphone demand will decline by 20% and 10% year-on-year in the first and second quarters of this year, respectively. Therefore, Korean companies' high dependence on China may show a downward trend.

It should be noted that SK Hynix's dependence on DRAM products is continuing to decline. Specifically, its DRAM sales totaled 2.0292 trillion won, accounting for 75% of its total sales from 79.9%. At the same time, the company's manufacturing and image sensor sales ratio rose from 1.4% to 5.5%. From this point of view, the epidemic will not significantly affect SK Hynix's market share in China.
