Korean media: LG Display's Guangzhou plant will be fully operational this month

According to a businesskorea report, LG Display is expected to ship 1.43 million OLED TV panels in the third quarter of this year, opening the era of launching 1 million OLED panels every quarter.

It is reported that the company's 8.5th generation production line in Guangzhou has finally started to operate normally after a long period of efforts to increase production. An industry insider said that the Guangzhou factory started mass production of OLED panels in July, and formed a synergy with LG Display's Gyeonggi Dopo factory. The third quarter will be a watershed for LG Display's large-scale OLED business.

According to the report, LG Display plans to fully operate its Guangzhou plant as early as September. This factory produces 48-inch, 55-inch, 65-inch and 77-inch panels and can process up to 60,000 OLED panels per month. In addition, LG Display plans to increase the factory's production capacity to 90,000 units after 2021, and its monthly total production capacity to 160,000 units (including the Gyeonggi Dopo plant's 70,000 units).

Previously, market research company Omdia predicted that LG Display’s OLED TV panel shipments in the third quarter of 2020 will exceed 1.43 million, which is more than twice that of the second quarter. In addition, shipments in the fourth quarter will exceed 2.01 million units, and the total shipments in 2020 will reach 4.93 million units, and this number will climb to 8 million units next year.
