A few days ago, according to the Taiwan Media Economic Daily, Micron will spend NT$400 billion (about RMB 90.8 billion) to build two fabs next to the existing Taiwanese plant. But then Micron said that it will only build the A3 plant, and there is no plan for the A5 plant, nor does it disclose the specific investment amount.
Today, Taiwan confirmed the news of Micron's capital increase. However, the specific amount is only NT$66 billion (about 15 billion RMB), and it is invested in Taiwan's Micron Semiconductor Co., Ltd. to engage in the business of electronic components manufacturing.
Due to the tragic decline in memory prices this year, both Korean Samsung and SK Hynix have delayed their expansion. Micron also previously stated that the expansion of the plant in Taiwan is only to increase the space and technology upgrade of the clean room equipment, and will not increase the wafer output.
